Masha's Legacy

I was invited to be the tribal soloist for the newly formed world music group "Masha's Legacy" headed up by Stuart and Sarit Vandegraaff. This has proven to be a lovely collaboration and the launch night on June 27th at Notes in Newtown was a wonderful success.

Wild Honey "Infinity"

Intensive contemporary belly dance lab workshops 23/24 October, Byron Bay.

The details of this workshop are set out here in overview only:

"Infinity" is a contemporary dance performance project workshop designed to produce a short (under 4 minutes) performance ready peice, comprised of movements informed by a theme, set to a specific structure and not limited to any particular dance style.

The best briefs are the ones with clear boundaries, as time isn't wasted on the exploration of a direction but is used extensively in pushing the boundaries instead. I will be bringing my skills of design and information architecture to this workshop to faciliate the creation of a dance drawn from the components created in the workshop by all involved.

- Workshop briefing
- Move exploration
- Organised chaos excersize
- Creating moves
- Creating the dance

Participants will come away with choreography skills, along with exploring new ways to move outside of a set style and an understanding at how to work efficiently with limited time.

A trial run workshop was held in Sydney in July, attendance was by invitation only. This trial was successful, with all the goals being acheived and the participants left feeling stimulated and inspired to continue.

The Body Serpentine

TBS is a tribal fusion dance collective, where all members contribute dance styles and performance experience. The dancers use the American Tribal Style Bellydance performance structure but instead of cueing moves, short combinations of set moves are created and bolted together to create a full and dynamic choreography.

As a collective, the performers within the group varies.

TBS have a regular performance slot at The Victoria Room and have performed at The Rocks Festival, Ruby's Place, South Sydney Markets, onstage at the Sydney Middle Eastern Dance Festival, plus many private performance bookings. More can be seen on the The Body Serpentine Facebook fan page.

Contemporary bellydance

I am focussing on developing a new style informed by her years of ATS, tribal fusion, yoga and contemporary dance.

Reacent choreographies ("Sweet the Sting" and "Slow Decent") are the beginnings of this new direction which focuses on body isolations, clean lines, shapes and angles, flowing movement and breaking the 'upright' carriage used in tribal bellydance.

Elements of this were recently taught at the Sydney Middle Eastern Dance Festival in a workshop on spins and poses, which was really well received.

This new style will be informing the intensive dance lab at the Wild Honey Dance Festival, Byron Bay at the end of this year.

I've also been granted studio space by the Fraser Street Artist collective for further exploration and development of the style.

The desired outcome is to produce a high quality dance style designed specifically for stage performance.
